No Internet.

Well Today has seen the usual routine;

Web Development & Fundamentals never failing to impress me. Then came lunch which was the usual place with the usual suspects, Crusty's for food then the Lochside Bar for some games of pool although we didn't today because the pool table was taken. Weblogs refused my admittance even tho I was only five minutes late out of the fifteen minute maximum so I am currently at the IT Centre at the college.

Tomorrow's forecast is a early driving lesson spell followed a long spell of traveling from Banff to Aberdeen by bus, then a train to Stirling for the greatly anticipated clash between my home, Stirling Albion and my supported team Celtic.

In the end i decided to stand at the Albion side because I am goin to the game with my uncle, brother and his other half.

So as reference to my older post, Stirling won the battle but we shall see on Saturday who will win the war.

Sunday will see another cloudy spell of travelling although it will be worse than the way there because the train from Stirling terminates at Dundee, leaving me to get a bus from Dundee to Aberdeen, although the bus is through the train company, Scotrail.

As for my last post regarding worldwide topics I will keep you informed as I wait for a news headline to catch my eye.

Bye for nowRosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04693967079608761324noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3091790005230047968.post-82784078775680431622008-01-09T13:04:00.000+00:002008-01-09T13:15:44.307+00:00Mid week UpdateWell its mid week and thus far hasn't been too difficult, monday was the usual day as far as work goes, it was mostly consisting of assessments but I found them relatively easy which is always a bonus when it comes to assessments.

Tuesday was my day off college although I was rattling through handouts to make sure I havent forgotten anything over the holidays and I admit there were bits and pieces I had but that was to be expected.

Today has been eventful I suppose, First class consisted of, believe it or not, an assessment which went smoothly which was then followed by lunch. After lunch was supposed to be Software Development which to everday people means Programming but our lecturer was absent and we had the priviledge of our first class lecturer taking the class instead but because she didn't know how to use the application, which was Delphi, Myself and two others could leave the class because she was repeating this mornings class for those who haden't finished.

So here I am killing time and doing some much needed house work of my nlog because I have noticed there hasn't been much activity as far as visitors goes although that me be an analytics problem. But if not am curious to know why, especially for those outide the UK so taking that into consideration the next few posts will be a general topic of discussion and hopefully that will help to spice things up. But only time will tell.Rosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04693967079608761324noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3091790005230047968.post-10835633923340890942008-01-07T13:21:00.001+00:002008-01-09T13:16:12.441+00:00Update

Sorry its took me so long to post, my Internet connection at home stopped so I had to wait until today now that I'm back at college.

Well Christmas went well, my little sister didn't get me up until 6 which is later than other years so needless to say she loves Christmas whereas I relish getting up before eight. It was spent this year with my mum, dad and sister which again is a first but it was less hectic with just the four of us so everything went well.

New year however was a different kettle of fish because I was a man on a mission so to speak on a five day stint. two days were spent at my friends in Aberdeen but the remaing three of the days were spent at the other halves (the better half really) with her family which is always an experience to say the least so I won't go into any more detail.

As far as college goes I'm confident with the remainder of the first block with all the assessments go but I'm starting to panic about the amount of assessments in Weblogs, well one in particular, the 5 week review. I started to think, I haven't started that particular assessment, yet there isn't 5 weeks left of the first block I don't think. Dilemna.

Rosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04693967079608761324noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3091790005230047968.post-51556710725870656092007-12-13T14:31:00.000+00:002008-12-13T02:08:51.993+00:00This weeks Pro's amd ConsThis weeks frantic and frustrating update.

Monday:

was straight forward as far as college went but I had to go Christmas shopping for four people in half an hour before my bus which was no easy task but I pulled through in the end.

Tuesday:

My day off college which was the pro. BUT, going to the dentist to get my wisdom tooth out was definately the con.

Wednesday:

I was absent from college because the morning after the night before was definately not a pretty sight, blood was everywhere so I came to the conclusion I had slept on my head.

Today:

Thursday means it's the last day of the penultamate week before the Christmas holidays and I would say it has been my best day this week. I finished as much as I possible could, with the information I have, in Web Development and spent the rest of the lesson helping others who had problems with the HTML coding.

Lunch was also good because I was brave enough to try a bacon roll even tho I have been eating soft foods which were mostly liquid or near enough liquid as my mums pasta went.

After lunch takes me to now after just completing a Photo Walking task within a group of my class mates which I found very interesting.

Friday:

The day of Pride, or the day of Failure. I sit my Theory test in the next step of my driving goal so needless to say I will be buried into the computer trying to drill all the information I need to pass. Well the things that aren't common sense or already drilled in but with any luck I'll pass first time and be driving with a full liscense, either before or after, New Year.

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5143468484896199202" style="DISPLAY: block; An interview with Auld Rabbie Burns!

Hello my name is Ross Martin and I will be your interviewer today so without any delay lets fire straight into the questions.

Question 1:

What was your biggest inspirations when you were starting off as a poet?

Rabbie:

Women were always good. Either that or chocolate.

Question 2:

How do you feel about modern literature compared to those from your golden years?

Rabbie:

Its all rubbish. None of it is from the heart, which as everyone knows, is always present in my poems.

Question 3:

How are you coping with all the advances in technology of this modern era?

Rabbie:

A havent a clue how to use most things, but luckily with me being so infamous, I have people that do it all for me.

Question 4:

Have you had time to visit the Statue to commemmorate your life?

Rabbie:

No. I have been told it is in Dumfries but I havent had time to go and find it with my busy schedule.

Question 5:

How do you feel having two places outside of Scotland named especially after you; Burns, New York and Burns, Oregon?

Rabbie:

I feel very proud and thankful to those places for showing this tribute.

Question 6:

Are you surprised that the cottage your father build with his own hands is still a infamous must see attraction in Scotland?

Question 7:

Yes I am extremely surprised. Upon his seventh birthday, his father sold the house and took the tenancy of a seventy acre farm south east from Alloway. Burns then lived a life of poverty and hardship, and because of the severe manual labour, the farm contributed to an already weakened constitution.

Because of the families poverty, Robert was seldom schooled and received most of his educational teachings from his father who taught him, and all the other children, reading, writing, mathematics, geography and history, as well as writing a manual of Christian belief to give them some sort of religious education.

At the age of fifteen he was the main labourer at the farm but was assisted by Nelly Kilpatrick who then inspired to attempt his first poem, O, Once I Lov’d A Bonnie Lass. He then was sent to finish his education with a tutor where he met Peggy Thomson, to whom he wrote two songs, Now Westlin’ Winds and I Dream’d I Lay.

In 1781 Burns became a Freemason at Lodge St David, Tarbolton. His earliest existing letters date from this time, when he began making romantic overtures to Alison Begbie (b. 1762). In spite of four songs written for her and a suggestion that he was willing to marry her, she rejected him.

In December 1781 Burns moved temporarily to Irvine to learn to become a flax-dresser, but during the New Year celebrations of 1781/1782, the flax shop caught fire and was sufficiently damaged to send him home to Lochlea farm.
He continued to write poems and songs and began a Commonplace Book in 1783, while his father fought a legal dispute with his landlord. The case went to the Court of Session and Burness was upheld in January 1784, a fortnight before he died. Robert and Gilbert made an ineffectual struggle to keep on the farm but after its failure, they moved to the farm at Mossgiel, near Mauchline in March, which they maintained with an uphill fight for the next four years. During the summer of 1784 he came to know a group of girls known collectively as The Belles of Mauchline, one of whom was Jean Armour, the daughter of a stonemason from Mauchline.

His casual love affairs did not endear him to the elders of the local Kirk and created for him a reputation for dissolution amongst his neighbors. His first illegitimate child, Elizabeth Paton Burns (1785 - 1817) was born to his mother’s servant, Elizabeth Paton (1760 - circa 1799), as he was embarking on a relationship with Jean Armour. She bore him twins in 1786, and although her father initially forbade their marriage, they were eventually married in 1788, and she bore him nine children in total, but only three survived infancy.
During a rift in his relationship with Jean Armour in 1786, and as his prospects in farming declined, he began an affair with 'Highland' Mary Campbell (1763 - 1786), to whom he dedicated the poems The Highland Lassie O, Highland Mary and To Mary in Heaven. Their relationship has been the subject of much conjecture and it has been suggested that they may have married. They planned to emigrate to Jamaica, where Burns intended to work as a bookkeeper on a plantation. He was dissuaded by a letter from Thomas Blacklock, and before the plans could be acted upon, Mary Campbell died suddenly of a fever in Greenock. That summer, he published the first of his collections of verse, Poems, Chiefly in the Scottish dialect, which created a sensation and has been recognized as a significant literary event.
Meanwhile he was writing at his best, and in 1790 had produced Tam O' Shanter. About this time he was offered and declined an appointment in London on the staff of the Star newspaper, and refused to become a candidate for a newly-created Chair of Agriculture in the University of Edinburgh, although influential friends offered to support his claims. After giving up his farm he removed to Dumfries.
As his health began to give way Burns began to age prematurely and fell into fits of despondency. The habits of intemperance aggravated his long-standing rheumatic heart condition, and on July 21, 1796 he died at the age of 37.
A memorial edition of his poems was published to raise money for his wife and children, and within a short time of his death, money started pouring in from all over Scotland to support them. His life and work continues to be promoted by Burns clubs across the world, with his birthday an unofficial national day for Scots and those with Scottish ancestry, celebrated with Burns suppers.

This information is based on information given on wikipedia. Upon hearing of this revelation, radio stations chose to ignore the new age of music and remain loyal to the stations they were currently airing.

Pirate radio was then brought about by vessels lying at the British coast, illegally brodcasting the records to over 20million listeners, with no commission given to the artists.

Then, in 1967 the idea of a single radio station brodcasting different genres of music, news bulletins, Radio 1 was born with The Rolling Stones taking the honours of the first song legally played.

Producers
Producers basically have the role of deciding what will be done in each show and when it will be done. For instance; Piers Bradford is the producer for one of the DJ's, Jo Whiley, and decides what competitions will take place etc.

Still with me?

DJ's

The DJ's for each show are the actual hosts of the shows, the people behind the microphone if you will, playing the music and talking to the listeners and so on.

Some of the more popular DJ's include;

Chris Moyles

Jo Whiley

Colin Murray

Sarah Cox

Zane Lowe

Edith Bowman

Vernan Kay

Dave Pearce

Scott Mills

JK & Joel

Playlists

A playlist is the list of songs that get played on each show. A plugger is the person that finds new artists and tracks that the listeners would like as well as some golden oldie's to be included in the playlist. Sanita Jagpal is but one of many designated pluggers.

Once the playlists have been decided they are sent to Alex Jones Donnely, the head of music, who has the final say on which tracks and playlist will actually be played.

Reporters

The reporters are the Newsbeat team that read the news every few hours each day on the latest happenings in the world be it news, sports, entertainment or fashion.

They are always scheduled to start at 8am so its always a hectic day for some of the reporters such as Andy Brown and Natalie Jamieson who are responsible for going out and finding the stories. Once the stories are collaberated, Rod McKenzie, the editor, puts everything together and hands it over to Georgina Bowman who is the newsreader and tells the news on air.

Finally........

Publicity

As with everything in life, publicity is a key factor to radio and Radio 1 always look for ways to improve publicity by organising events al over the UK as well as abroad, especially in places where the Brits commonly go for example Ibiza.

Julian Payne is in charge for publicty and has the role of finding different ways to attract new listeners but always having to bear in mind that the average age group of listeners is 15-27 year olds. Looking at it from both sides, newspapers do have legal processes to follow in the UK so obviously one would expect the same process for british bloggers unless it is clearly stated as a personal opinion, unless of course it is un-acceptable.

In my opinion, although I suppose i'm slightly biased, after looking at the facts from both sides of the story, I feel it is a harsh decision to pull the plug on one of UK's most popular political websites all because of one or two people's mistake.Rosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04693967079608761324noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3091790005230047968.post-81588495140372670662007-09-20T13:19:00.000+01:002008-12-13T02:08:55.745+00:00This Weeks Highlight

Week four of the course is drawing to a close and possibly the best moment thus far was, believe it or not, first thing on a Monday morning with Susan.
